2012 Oscars men’s fashion roundup! (for Rosie)
BEST DRESSED:
1. Gary Oldman. This man knows how to rock a quirky suit. Gorgeously blending midnight blue and black, Gary wins the award for most dapper man, with a patterned pocket square, neatly disheveled black bowtie and geek chic glasses.

2. Jean Dujardin. Channeling his character in The Artist, Jean looks effortless and classy and completely happy to be there on the red carpet. The French actor nabbed the statue for best lead actor, and with his perfectly combed hair and big bowtie, looked like a classic star.

3. Robert Downey Jr. I love this man. I am constantly thrilled with his strange fashion choices, because he pulls them off so confidently. Presenting the award for best documentary film with Gwyneth Paltrow, RDJ stole the show and filled the stage. With his tinted glasses and black on black attire, he already looks cool. Adding the gold metallic bow tie? One would think that might tip it over the edge, but it just makes him even more alluring.

4. Christopher Plummer. I have a thing for velvet, and Christopher really showed us he’s still on the cutting edge in this midnight blue smoking jacket. Somebody obviously told him vintage was in!

5. Tom Hanks. I was blown away by how incredibly sexy, clean cut and put together Tom Hanks looked on Sunday. His big bowtie and sliver of white pocket square added a charming effect to the already handsome shawl lapels.

WORST DRESSED:
1. Nick Nolte. There’s not much to say about how horrible this look is. He looked stuffed into the tux, the bowtie is tiny and the shades? Absolutely not.

2. Brad Pitt. Something is underwhelming about this outfit. With Angelina at his side, you’d think he’d be wearing something equally as edgy. Instead, the jacket looks ill fitting, his hair looks straggly and unkempt and he just looks flat.

3. Antonio Banderas. He looks like he just gave up. Even a bowtie would have classed up this weird, greasy, slouchy look. And he looks incredibly unhappy to be there.

4. Jonah Hill. Going for the Christian Bale black-on-black-on-black style of last year, Jonah’s black-on-midnight blue/faded black/navy/what?-on-black look does not work. A white shirt would have looked crisp and nice on him, but the weird in between color shirt he’s sporting doesn’t cut it.

5. George Clooney. I hesitated putting him on this list, but the outfit looks a little too “rent-a-tux” for my tastes. My main issue is with the bowtie which looks like it’s been tightened beyond belief. The knot squeezes the tails into an almost comical shape, which declasses the whole look.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
1. Bret Mackenzie. Something about his look was just so clean and traditional. I loved it. The pocket square, the bowtie, the jumping….always surprises with this New Zealand songster!

2. Colin Firth. While nothing stands out with this tux, there’s something about Colin that looks so at home in the ensemble. The deep opening in the jacket makes him look very cutting edge, and the shawl lapel reminds us of his period drama roots.

3. Pharrell Williams. Oh baby, show me a three piece suit on a dapper guy and I’m melting. While the jacket is a bit snug, the silk lined lapels and velvet bowtie make up for it in spades.

4. Kenneth Branagh. The tie look works on this man, what can I say. He’d look wonderful in a bowtie, but I’m glad he went for this less formal look. He manages to stay formal and clean in this black and white look.
